John David Edward Davies was born 6 February 1953.〔(Debrett’s )〕 He was educated at Southampton University. From 1975 to 1982 Davies practised as a solicitor. In 1984 he was ordained, after a period of study at St. Michael's College, Llandaff.〔Crockfords, (London, Church House 1995) ISBN 0-7151-8088-6〕 He held curacies at Chepstow and Rudry, before being appointed Rector of Bedwas. From 1995 to 2000 he was vicar of the church of St John Evangelist, Newport.
